The Office of Career Development for Employers

The Office of Career Development at Roger Williams University School of Law offers a variety of ways for employers to engage with RWU Law students and graduates. We regularly hold recruiting events, participate in regional and specialty career fairs and conferences, and invite employers to contact us directly any time they have positions to fill. We greatly appreciate your interest, and we look forward to working with you.

At any time of the year, the Office of Career Development is pleased to post your employment opportunities. Fill out this Job Posting Questionnaire to submit a position for posting on our Symplicity student and alumni job boards.

Please note that this form is for RWU Law and ONLY hosts positions available to current law students or alumni seeking jobs requiring or significantly advantaged by their J.D. If you are looking to post a position that is not specifically for law students or law graduates, we encourage you to instead consider RWU's undergraduate and graduate Center for Career & Professional Development

On-Campus/Virtual Interviews

The Office of Career Development is pleased to host on-campus or virtual interviews throughout the academic year. Participating employers can provide the Office of Career Development with their specific hiring information and select preferred dates for interviewing. The Office of Career Development collects candidates' application materials and submits them to employers in advance of the interview. Your ability to pre-screen the candidates ensures that you will interview only the students most compatible with your individual hiring needs. The Office of Career Development will contact and schedule students for desired interviews and will provide interview space in our law school in Bristol, Rhode Island.

You may reserve a date for on-campus interviewing by contacting Jodi Haley at jhaley@rwu.edu

Employers who require overnight accommodations when traveling to Bristol to interview our students will be hosted at the Bristol Harbor Inn, overlooking the Narragansett Bay.

Resume Collections

Employers unable to conduct on-campus or virtual interviews may recruit by participating in a resume collection. Firms and agencies interested in soliciting resumes from students should contact Jodi Haley at jhaley@rwu.edu

Non-Discrimination
It is the policy of Roger Williams University School of Law not to discriminate against any person on the basis of race, color, religion, national or ethnic origin, age, sex, sexual orientation, gender expression or identity, disability, veteran status, or any other legally protected basis in admission to, access to, employment in, and treatment in its programs and activities.

Please review the official Roger Williams University Non-Discrimination Policy for full details and the appropriate contacts for inquiries regarding non-discrimination practices and reporting procedures at the University.

Military Recruitment
Though Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell has been repealed, there are still unresolved issues of discrimination of LGBTQ+ individuals by the United States military. RWU Law must allow the military to recruit on campus to avoid risking the loss of federal funding for student financial aid and research grants imposed under the Solomon Amendment.

Message of Compliance for Unpaid Internships
Roger Williams University School of Law is in compliance with the U.S. Department of Labor's Wage and Hour Division (WHD) of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) regarding all unpaid internships. The WHD has developed seven federal guidelines, which you can find on the WHD website

Close Course Type Descriptions

Course Types

We have classified RWU Law classes under the following headers. One of the following course types will be attached to each course which will allow students to narrow down their search while looking for classes.

Core Course

Students in the first and second year are required to take classes covering the following aspects of the law—contracts, torts, property, criminal law, civil procedure, and constitutional law, evidence, and professional responsibility.  Along with these aspects, the core curriculum will develop legal reasoning skills.

Elective

After finishing the core curriculum the remaining coursework toward the degree is completed through upper level elective courses.  Students can choose courses that peak their interests or courses that go along with the track they are following.

Seminar

Seminars are classes where teachers and small groups of students focus on a specific topic and the students complete a substantial research paper.

Clinics/Externships

Inhouse Clinics and Clinical Externships legal education is law school training in which students participate in client representation under the supervision of a practicing attorney or law professor.  RWU Law's Clinical Programs offer unique and effective learning opportunities and the opportunity for practical experience while still in law school.
