The Office of Career Development for Alumni

Even after you graduate, you carry the experience, teachings, and mission of Roger Williams University School of Law with you as you work to make an impact in your community. The Office of Career Development can guide you through the process of making a change in your practice, career direction, or geographic area. We also encourage alumni to participate in Career Development programs, post an employment opportunity with your organization, or update your employment status with our office.

Counseling Appointments

As an alumni, you can set up an individual appointment with any member of our office to discuss the unique needs facing you from the initial post-grad job search to advanced career transitions.

Symplicity Access

Access to your Symplicity account continues after you graduate. We do suggest you change your email address to your personal account and not your RWU Law email account in order to maintain access.

The American Bar Association requires reporting on the employment status of every RWU Law graduate. This is a survey for all December 2022, May 2023, and August 2023 RWU Law graduates.

This survey will consist of quick demographic questions followed by important data about your employment and will likely only take between 5-10 minutes. It is important you answer all questions VERY CAREFULLY and accurately. All information will be kept strictly confidential and used for data reporting purposes only.

Public Interest Loan Repayment Assistance Program (PILRAP)

PILRAP was created in 2008 and is designed to provide support for our graduates pursuing careers representing low-income clients in non-profit offices. This assistance comes in the form of a forgivable loan.

Course Types

We have classified RWU Law classes under the following headers. One of the following course types will be attached to each course which will allow students to narrow down their search while looking for classes.

Core Course

Students in the first and second year are required to take classes covering the following aspects of the law—contracts, torts, property, criminal law, civil procedure, and constitutional law, evidence, and professional responsibility.  Along with these aspects, the core curriculum will develop legal reasoning skills.

Elective

After finishing the core curriculum the remaining coursework toward the degree is completed through upper level elective courses.  Students can choose courses that peak their interests or courses that go along with the track they are following.

Seminar

Seminars are classes where teachers and small groups of students focus on a specific topic and the students complete a substantial research paper.

Clinics/Externships

Inhouse Clinics and Clinical Externships legal education is law school training in which students participate in client representation under the supervision of a practicing attorney or law professor.  RWU Law's Clinical Programs offer unique and effective learning opportunities and the opportunity for practical experience while still in law school.
